The Cyber Crime Police have recently arrested two people from New Delhi for allegedly running a job racket and duping aspirants on the pretext of providing them jobs in Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Limited.

The arrested duo has been identified as Vipin Yadav (19) and Mohit Yadav (21), both residents of Rohini in New Delhi and natives of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the complainant works in the HR team of M&M's Worli office. On September 12, 2018, the company's HR team had received an email from one Abhijit Roy, who claimed that he had received a call from M&M and was assured a job. Roy also informed that the company officials had sought a registration fee from him, but since he suspected something amiss, he decided to send an email to the company.

On November 30, the M&M appointed Diligence Consulting (DC) LLP to verify the matter. The DC officials then contacted the mobile numbers of the recruiter provided by Roy and made inquiries for a job in M&M, the police said.

"A DC official contacted the recruiter, posing as a job-seeker. One Payal Gupta, who claimed to be from the HR team of M&M, told the DC official that there is a vacancy in M&M and asked the official to deposit Rs 3,400 in a bank account number provided by her. He was also asked to send his CV on mahindramotorshr72@gmail.com," a police officer said.

The officer further said, on December 5, the official transferred the money to the said account and on the next day he received a selection letter from the fraudsters stating that his appointment has been confirmed at Mahindra Motors Pvt Ltd at Mirzapur in UP and was assured a monthly salary of Rs 25,500.

The fraudsters then asked the official to pay a sum of Rs 17,000 before joining duty. They claimed the amount would be given back to him along with his first salary. The fraudsters had also prepared a bogus logo and a letterhead of M&M to make their con look genuine. The DC official then informed M&M that this was indeed a fraud, after which the matter was reported to the police.

"The IP address used to prepare the bogus emails of M&M were found to be used at Rajouri, in Delhi. We then sent our team to Delhi and arrested Mohit and Vipin on Friday," the officer said.
