Two former domestic helps brutally murdered their 78-year-old master at the latter's Bandra residence on Saturday night and decamped around 2.30 am, with Rs 7.50 lakh in cash, about 20 grams of gold ornaments and a mobile phone.

The two, both in their early twenties, later told the police that they killed Darius Kapadia to steal money to be spent in dance bars.

Jay Tanaji Navrang (21) and Kamlesh Narayan Jadhav alias Mini (20), both residents of Parel Village, visited Kapadia's residence on Saturday night and engaged him in a general chat till late night. Navrang had earlier worked with the Kapadias as a gardener and Jadhav as a domestic help.

During the conversation, they learnt that the keys to the cupboards were with Kapadia's wife Lilly.

Seventy four-year-old Lilly was at their daughter's flat at Monalisa Building near Mehboob Studio in Bandra. According to the police, as a daily schedule, Lilly used to stay at her 50-yer-old daughter's place from 10 am till 12 am and would return home by midnight. Kapadia always used to stay at his residence.

On Saturday, when she returned home, she saw her husband lying in a pool of blood. The assailants, who were still in the house, waiting for her return, immediately tied her up, robbed the place and fled.
Lilly managed to untie herself later and alerted neighbours and cops. The accused have been arrested with stolen booty.

Darius was a retired principal secretary of Bombay High Court. He and Lilly were staying on the ground floor flat of Bai Jerbai Tata building at Tata Parsi Colony at SV Road in Bandra (W).

On getting information about the attackers from Lilly, the police apprehended both from Parel later on Sunday.

"The duo had told the police that they were aware about the jewellery at Kapadia's residence," said a police officer. Navrang and Jadhav would be produced before the court on Monday.
