The two floating hotels are an initiative of the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). The trust has appointed a private operator for running the two floating hotels for a period of 15 years.

Similarly, in 2017, three floating hotels were started near the BWSL of which only two are functioning. One had capsised earlier this year.

The floating restaurants have an upper and a lower deck with two bars and one restaurant that will allow visitors to book it for lunch hours, dinners, and for private parties and weddings. The operators of the two floatels have said that they will start their operations on Monday after its launch on Saturday.

Both of them are around 10-years-old, and we are expecting a good amount of takers. We will have an international cuisine followed by live band performances and gigs for visitors."

Thirani added, "We have permissions for having the two floatels open till early morning hours but currently are focusing at keeping it open between 12 noon and 12 midnight. The two will be anchored at Gateway of India, and for private bookings like parties and weddings, they will be docked at Victoria docks due to availability of space for parking there."

As of now, the operators have said that the rate for visiting the floating hotels start with a cover charge of Rs 2,500, and it further depends on the individuals looking to spend. The operators are appointed by MbPT for boosting coastal tourism in the city, and for which a revenue sharing model has also been kept.

Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman MbPT said, "The operator for the two floating hotels will have to share 17 per cent and 12 per cent gross revenue respectively from the total earnings. For now, two are starting at Gateway of India, and one more floating hotel will come up near Marine Drive."

The operators of the two floatels said they expect around three for the business to take off, and reach break-even point in the next three years.
