Two-day Ganpati holiday for BMC schools

The BMC sent a circular to principals of BMC's primary schools, private aided and unaided schools about changes in a holiday, whose notification that they had previously sent.

BMC wants schools to give two days' holidays for the Ganesh festival and compensate the working hours by working full day for the four Saturdays mentioned in the circular.

BMC previously circulated a notification on July 21 to all schools, mentioning holidays to be taken from June 16 till December 31, 2014. However, after political parties started protesting since last year, asking for holidays to be declared for the festival, BMC sent a new circular on Aug 14, giving the dates of the holidays.

As per the circular, Aug 28 and September 4 can be declared holidays. However, in order to compensate, the schools have been asked to work on four Saturdays, for the entire day, instead of giving students the usual half-day. These dates are Aug 16, Aug 23, September 6 and September 13. The schools have been asked to strictly adhere to the circular and zonal officers have been permission visit the schools.

Despite repeated calls, Shambhavi Jogi, education officer of the BMC, remained unavailable for comments.
