The Marine Drive police which is probing the sensational case of constable Dharmraj Kalokhe, who had a fair amount of narcotics drug M-cat in his possession, has learnt that two policemen had tipped off Satara police about Kalokhe's involvement in peddling. The duo apparently did this since they wanted to replace Kalokhe in the multi-crore drug syndicate. Kalokhe is a partner of 54-year-old drug runner Shashikala Patankar alias Baby.

The Anti Narcotics Cell of city police, in fact, had received a tip-off about Kalokhe's involvement, but before they could react, the Satara police busted the drug racket.

"A police inspector from Igatpuri who is now posted in the Nashik rural police control room and a police constable from Special Branch II of Mumbai police had reportedly tipped off Satara police about Kalokhe having M-cat at his Kanheri village residence. We have learnt that the duo were in touch with Patankar and were wanting to replace Kalokhe in the business," said an officer from Marine Drive police station.

On March 9, the police had seized 110 kg of banned narcotics substance. The next day, they recovered 12 kg of suspected narcotics substance, foreign currencies and some quantity of opium from Kalokhe's personal locker at the Marine Drive police station.

The police have also stated that the claims made by Kalokhe to the Satara police about having received the drugs from a customs officer at Sahar international airport was untrue. "Nowhere in our investigation does it suggest that the drugs belonged to any customs seizure," the officer said.

When the involvement of a Mumbai police constable in the drug racket surfaced, commissioner of police Rakesh Maria immediately ordered the dismissal of Kalokhe from service. Senior police inspector of Marine Drive police station Pravin Chinchalkar was also shunted to the Special Branch.
