The Dahisar police have arrested two wanted chain snatchers who even paid their rent in the form of stolen jewellery and used their landlord's bike to zip around the city and rob people. The landlord, who took them in after they gave up their jobs in Delhi to come to the city in the hopes of making quick money, has also been arrested.

According to the police, Salim Ansari, 21, and Saif Khan, 19, who worked in Delhi as tailors, came to the city a few weeks ago. "The two did not have a place to stay. So they lived with a man called Nabi Yahya Khan who lived in Govind Nagar chawl in Malad East. They were new to the city and did not have any money. So they offered to pay Nabi Khan a share of the booty, and he agreed to let them stay," said PSI Sanjay Pawar.

"Nabi Khan, who also worked as a tailor, gave his second-hand bike to the two, who used it to rob people. They then gave some of the chains to Khan," said inspector Pawar.

Two days ago, when the two chain snatchers were roaming around in their bike, they were caught by the police near Dahisar check naka. "We found two gold chains in their possession worth several lakhs. We are checking for more booty from the trio. Nabi Khan also has several cases of theft against him," added Pawar.

The three were produced in front of the magistrate court and remanded in police custody. "The duo used to target older women, especially near temples and desolate places. We are also checking whether they are part of a bigger gang," said another officer.
