A Sessions court in Mumbai Tuesday acquitted two persons arrested during the 1993 riots in the city.

The accused Madhukar Raut and Ashok Patel, who were charged with rioting in Central Mumbai and unlawful assembly, were convicted by a magistrate's court earlier and sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment.

However, the Sessions court Tuesday overturned the verdict observing that the evidence did not prove conclusively that they were armed and were part of unlawful assembly.
