Twelve detained for protest against ADHM

The protest took place after Johar, issued a video message on Tuesday, in which he conveyed that henceforth, Pakistani talent would not be a part of his films. Earlier this month, the MNS opposed release of films with actors from Pakistan after the Uri terror attack.

While the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) was vocal about its protest against the release of Bollywood film producer and director Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hain Mushkil starring Pakistani actor, Fawad Khan, on Wednesday afternoon 12 party workers allegedly barged into South Mumbai's Sterling Cinema and Metro Cinema and handed over a letter to the management to not screen the movie which is due for release on October 28.

According to a senior police officer of Azad Maidan police station, "At around 12:30 the twelve party workers had entered the Metro cinema at Dhobi Talao with flags in their hands. While they were chanting slogans outside the cinema, our beat marshal spotted them. They tried to avert the situation and asked them to protest peacefully, however, the 12 of them were outraged and continued to protest. Hence, all of them were arrested by 4pm and produced before the court at 5pm."

"Apparently, they managed to hand over the letter to the cinema. Not only that, they also confessed that a letter was given to Sterling cinema, CST as well." He added.

"The 12 of them are in preventive custody for 15 days and have been sent to Arthur Road jail. They were also granted bail against a penalty worth five thousand rupees. However, they have been detained under section 151 (3) of The Code of Criminal Procedure CrPC."

In a statement issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ashok Dudhe, spokesperson of Mumbai Police said, "Mumbai police will provide adequate protection to cinema theatres as and when required.
