The Maharashtra State Marketing Federation's General Manager (GM) Anil Deshmukh was suspended on Thursday over irregularities in the tur dal milling tender. Buoyed by the suspension, now the opposition NCP has demanded the resignation of Co-operation, Textile and Marketing minister Subhash Deshmukh over the alleged scam, touting it to be a scam worth Rs 2,000 crore.

The opposition has alleged that it was under the instruction of BJP minister Deshmukh that the GM of the marketing federation changed the tender's terms and conditions to suit traders and millers of his choice.

"We, therefore, demand that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also sack Minister Subhash Deshmukh. The CAG has probed the tur dal scam and it has been proven that the scam happened," said Leader of Opposition, State Council and NCP MLC Dhananjay Munde.

Munde alleged that in the government notification, it has been clearly mentioned that the revised tender for tur dal supply has been floated after the instruction of BJP Minister Subhash Deshmukh. DNA has a copy of this notification.

Munde alleged that last year there was bumper tur and other pulses and yet the government bought tur at a high value in an open tender. "The tur dal from the farmers were bought at low price. Interestingly, most of the tur was abandoned by farmers at the various agriculture produces market committee (APMC) because of the government's inability to buy tur. Farmers were deprived of getting fair prices but at the same time the traders were given a high rate," Munde pointed out.

State government constituted Late Vasantrao Naik Sheti Swalambhan Mission Chief Kishor Tiwari had also recently written to chief minister Fadnavis complaining about the lower than minimum support prices (MSP) to pulses across Maharashtra. Tiwari had informed that this low MSP has deprived farmers of getting fair prices.
