The tumbling of sale records that started on Monday continued on Tuesday as both Central and Western railways saw their daily season ticket sales break the 1.5 lakh barrier, possibly for the first time in their history.

By the time Wednesday rang in, WR had sold 1,51,093 season tickets, with 71,740 being half-yearly or yearly season tickets. On CR, the sales touched 1,51,704. Of these 53,396 were either half-yearly or yearly.
Against a daily average of Rs2 crore in earnings, WR saw Rs22 crore flow in from these sales. CR saw Rs14.98 crore, six times more than its daily average.

According to officials, a monthly season pass is equalled to 50 passengers — a pass holder is expected to make 50 trips in 30 days — and a yearly pass is equalled to 600 passengers. By that calculation, the number of passes that were sold till Wednesday equalled a massive 4.62 crore passengers, said WR officials.

On Monday, CR, which is the bigger of the two zones, had sold a whopping 95,385 season passes, earning Rs7.08 crore, but WR did better and ended up selling 96,916 and earning Rs12 crore.
