Truck driver held guilty in accident case

All three inside the car succumbed to injuries.

The Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) held a truck driver guilty for the death of a couple after their car dashed his truck, which did not have red blinkers leading to the accient.

On October 28, 2010, one Harish Gawankar was driving his car at Mumbai-Thane Highway and was accompanied by his wife Sanjivani and another relative. At the Airoli bridge, Gawankar's car dashed against a slow-moving truck. All three inside the car succumbed to injuries.

The MACT, thus ordered the owner of the truck, its driver and the insurance firm, Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, to jointly pay an amount of Rs 18 lakhs to the son, of the deceased, Vineet Gawankar.
