The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has said the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led party will support the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra in return for the support it offered to the movement of separate statehood for Telangana. "NCP supremo Sharad Pawar has been a natural supporter of our cause for long. So, we are going to support them here in Maharashtra," said Baddi Hemantkumar, president of TRS's Mumbai unit, adding his party won't be fielding candidates in Maharashtra.

Hemantkumar said there are around 30 lakh voters in Maharashtra who hail from Telangana. Meanwhile, even though Congress supported formation of Telangana on the floor of the House, Hemantkumar said TRS is unlikely to support the Sonia Gandhi-headed party. "The Congress had promised us separate statehood in 2004 itself. But it did not keep its word. It did help us recently, but that was out of political compulsion as it feared loss of ground in Andhra Pradesh," he said.
