Rather than criminalising or seeking penal provision after the Supreme Court banned instant Triple Talaq, women should move on in life and get remarried, said Dr Asma Zahra, president of women’s wing of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). According to AIMPLB, marriage is a contract in the Muslim community and a suitable compensation has to be given while dissolving the contract. The compensation cannot be criminalising it.

The women’s group said they are protesting against Triple Talaq Bill and does not give any support to the victims. On asking for a solution, and not criminalising it, Dr Zahra said, “Women must live with dignity. The victims are reluctant to go back to their ex-husbands. If Triple Talaq is criminalised, the men will not be able to give talaq. In such cases, the men will move on without giving talaq. It will only increase cases of abandonment. Rather, the victims should move on and get remarried.”

“The Bill is more focused on criminalising men for seeking instant talaq. We don’t want any amendment in the Bill. Rather, we want to dissolve the Bill completely. It is drafted without consulting Muslim leaders and the victims,” Dr Asma, further said.

AIMPLB has submitted a petition with over five crore signatures in favour of Muslim Personal Law to the President, the Prime Minister, the Law Commission, the Women’s Right Commission.  As per the organisation, they want the government to take back the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017. In order to raise their voice against the Bill, a silent protest rally of Muslim women has been organised at Azad Maidan on Saturday, March 31.
