Three people were recently arrested by the Malad police on charges of allegedly stealing customer data of a Malad-based company. Two of the three were senior employees of the company and police claim that the trio wanted to set up their own company and were allegedly planning to use customer data for the same.

The trio has been identified as Orlem (Malad) resident Kunal Modi, 29, Borivli resident Karan Chheda, 24, and Mira Road resident Pritesh Trivedi, 27.

While Trivedi was a former employee of the company, Modi and Chheda were working at senior posts there. "One of the clients of the company had tipped-off the management that their data was being siphoned. Based on this, the company lodged a complaint against Modi, Chheda and Trivedi on October 18," said police sub-inspector Manohar Sonawane.

The case was registered under sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by servant) and 34 (common intention) and relevant sections of Information Technology Act.

"The trio claimed that they had taken customer data from the company's website and were planning to set up their own company using that. We have seized three laptops from the trio and have sent them to the forensic department for analysis," Sonawane said.
