The sessions court on Tuesday again adjourned the trial in actor Salman Khan's hit-and-run case after the prosecution told the court that they had not been able to trace the location of the witnesses, who were to testify against the actor.

The court, presided by judge DW Deshpande, adjourned the matter to April 28, when the prosecution, in all likelihood, will begin examining the witnesses.

Assistant public prosecutor J Kenjalkar, who spoke to dna, said: "On March 26, we had pleaded with the court to adjourn the matter as we could not get in touch with the witnesses. Even today we were not able to contact them. The case is 12 years old. The witnesses in the case are labourers working in the area where the alleged offence took place. They have now gone back to their native places. Hence, it's very difficult to trace them."

Advocate Kenjalkar, however, claimed they would initiate examination of the witnesses on the next day of hearing. "We would first examine the 'panch' witnesses in the case on the next date."

Meanwhile the actor, who appeared in the court, said he would go abroad on April 2.

The case dates back to September 2002 when Salman Khan allegedly rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into people sleeping on a pavement next to a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four. One Noorulla Mahboob Sharif died in the mishap while Abdul Rauf Shaikh, Kalim Mohammed Pathan and Munna Malai Khan were injured.
