The Shivaji Park police on Wednesday night arrested Sachin Jakatdar, 42, owner of Sachin Travels, for allegedly duping around 85 customers who had booked various national and international tour packages through his travel agency.

The police said Jakatdar has been in the business for the last eight years. On March 31, some customers registered a cheating case against him, alleging that he took money from them for national and international tours, but later cancelled them and failed to give refunds too.

"The unhappy customers approached us with a compliant that Jakatdar had duped them. On that basis, we registered an FIR and arrested him on Wednesday night," said Parshuram Kakad, senior inspector.

"In our investigation, till now we have come to know that Jakatdar has cheated people to the tune of Rs86 lakh. However, we believe that the figure might go in crores as more complainants are coming forward."

The Shivaji Park police have booked Jakatdar for cheating. He was produced in a local court, which remanded him in police custody till April 4.

Interestingly, Jakatdar was arrested by the Thane police in July 2014 for a similar offence after a customer complained to the Navpada police.
