Transplanted heart beating well: Doctors

Dr Sanjeev Jadhav, chief cardiac surgeon at Jehangir hospital who harvested the organ and conducted the heart transplant along with Dr Mulay, said that the patient is still on ventilator and his condition is being reviewed closely.

A day after the heart transplant surgery on Monday, the 22-year-old youth has gained consciousness and the transplanted heart is beating well, say doctors.

Dr Anvay Mulay, cardiac surgeon from Fortis hospital in Mulund, said: "The patient is stable and his vital signs are strengthening. A few more days of intensive monitoring will be required and he should be able to go back to his everyday life in a few weeks."
