Four cities, including Mumbai, will see former Mr Gay World India Sushant Divgikar perform to Rekha's 'Dil Cheez Kya Hain' along with other transgender performers. The tour, called 'A 1000 REKHAS' aims to highlight the fact that everyone within the LGBT community has a Rekha within them with all the varied roles she has done.

Apart from Mumbai, the performances will be held in Delhi, Bangalore and Chandigarh.

In Mumbai and Chandigarh, the performances will only be by Divgikar and the transwomen. In Bangalore, there will be another drag queen, Maya, from Bangalore, joining them on stage. In Delhi, drag queen Betta will be dancing with the troupe. Divgikar too will be performing in drag. The aim is to let more people know and acknowledge the transgender community in mainstream performing spaces.

For many transgender performers, this tour is an opportunity to showcase their talent in the mainstream, opening a new window for them to the world. Shivali Chhetri is one of the finalists of Ms Transqueen India pageant in 2017 and her dance moves are a big hit. Her story has received more than 3 lakh views on Youtube. On being part of the troupe she said, "It is a pleasure sharing the stage with Sushant for a tribute to one of the most iconic actresses of Bollywood. I am thankful to kitty su for being so inclusive and I hope transwomen get more such opportunities."

Another performer is Navya Singh, a trans model and trans pageant finalist. "Everyone in the world must come forward to showcase their talent to the world. By doing this our society would change and they would accept any God's creation. They will believe what matters the most in this world is feeling and emotions because these are the main ingredients which form humans."

Divgikar will be dancing in his drag avatar in the kaanjivaram saree that Rekha gifted him on Bigg Boss 8 for winning a task which she gave them. "When I was a kid, I grew up imagining that I am all of her characters amalgamated into one person. I looked up to her for strength when I was vulnerable," said Divgikar.

  • The programme schedule starts from Bangalore followed by Mumbai on March 15, Delhi on March 22 and Chandigarh on March 30.
