Soon motorists treading in South Mumbai will be having a hard time with traffic as the BMC has planned to resurface the project to improve and carry out repair works along Shahid Bhagat Singh Road and P D'Mello Road — the two important connecting roads in South Mumbai. "There is a dire need to resurface the road project as they are uneven at several locations. The entire work will take around two years, but we will take required measures to avoid traffic congestion," a civic officer said.

"It is true that the work will create some traffic issues, but repair work is also necessary. The work is expected to begin in two months," an officer from BMC Roads department said.

P D'mello Road and Shahid Bhagat Singh Road cover areas staring from Afgan Church, Navy office, Colaba Causeway, Regal Cinema, Horniman circle and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) up to the Eastern Free Way. Shahid Bhagat Singh Road which starts from Afgan Church connects to P D'mello Road from the General Post office near CST.

P D'mello road which is a four lane road, is always congested with traffic as it connects to the Eastern Free Way. The road surfacing work also includes Carnac bunder junction.

The officer added, "It is not only the levelling work, but we will also beautify the roads with some facilities like signboards and benches at various locations. The tender for the project has been floated and work may start in one or two months time."
