Navi Mumbai traffic department has decided to divert the traffic from certain roads of Vashi on Sunday because of poll counting.

The poll counting of the state assembly elections will be started at Sacred Heart High School in Vashi's sector 9A on Sunday morning. So, the traffic department has decided to declare that area as no-entry zone for the whole of today.

"Several people from different political parties will gather at Vashi since morning. There should not be any traffic snarls at any time as there are a few hospitals in that area. For the convenience of motorists, patients and other commuters, we have declared that area as no-entry zone today," said Arvind Salve, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
"Vehicles heading towards MGM hospital will have to take the road behind Vashi police station. Likewise, vehicles coming from sector 6 to other parts of the city will be diverted to the road in front of Noor mosque," another official said.

For going to Mumbai from Vashi's sector 6, motorists will have to use the underway at Vashi village. The traffic officials as well as Navi Mumbai police will be monitoring the cars, ambulance, fire brigade vehicles parked at different places throughout the day.

"No vehicles will be allowed to enter the above mentioned roads from 6am to 6pm. We appeal to the residents to cooperate with us for an effective traffic management on Sunday. Punitive measures will be taken if we find motorists violating the traffic norms," another senior police officer said.
