Tough times ahead for the Shiv Sena as the BJP seems to be contemplating toppling the saffron alliance partner in the BMC. After isolating the Shiv Sena in the standing committee on Wednesday, Mumbai BJP chief and MLA Ashish Shelar, on Thursday, met Raj Thackeray at his residence hinting at a political development and realignment in the next few months.

Sources claim that Mumbai BJP chief may have gone to meet Raj Thackeray to seek his support with the possibility of forming a BJP-led coalition in the BMC too.

"Both the saffron parties have been struggling to come to terms with each other especially after the break up of the the 25-year-old alliance at the state level. Sena leaders have not been able to accept the split with BJP leaders trying to dominate. The ego clash between the 'big' and 'small' brother is the bone of contention," said a source, explaining the BJP move on Wednesday of pulling up standing committee chairman, who is a Sena corporator, for not having control over the administration. The BJP not only staged a walk out but also ensured that MNS and other parties come along with them.

On Thursday, Ashish Shelar's meeting with the MNS chief have led to speculation of political developments. "If the BJP poaches Sena corporators and adds up MNS, independents and NCP together, it could take over BMC, if the possibilities of early elections is not working out," said a senior leader.

The leader also added that: "Since negotiations between Shiv Sena and BJP are already taking place through back doors, this can be an arm twisting tactic by BJP. However, in March when all the civic committees are put to elections, the possibilities of cross voting cannot be ruled out if the Shiv Sena chooses to stick to it's decision of sitting in the opposition," he added.
