To save lives, Australia to help set up trauma care centre

Australia’s foreign minister Julie Bishop MP has welcomed a new trauma care partnership between India’s ministry of health & family welfare and Australia’s National Trauma Research Institute. The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Bishop’s presence in Mumbai on Sunday after she formally opened the new Chancery of Australia’s Consulate General in Mumbai on her first visit to India

“Trauma from road accidents is one of the world’s biggest health problems, and this partnership will assist India to develop a world class trauma system that will save lives” said Bishop.

“It’s a great example of bilateral co-operation, and another powerful demonstration of how sophisticated the relationship between our two countries has become.”

“Opening the Consulate General formally confirms the commitment by the government to strengthen and deepen our strategic partnership with India...” said Bishop.

India is now Australia’s 10th largest trading partner and fifth –largest export market – exports to India were worth $14 billion in 2012.
