With most school results out, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is all set to address the concerns of those students who are in distress or dilemma through their telephone and email-based counselling service – iCall.

The professionally trained counsellors at iCall can converse in six different languages – English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi and Malayalam.

With most parents dreaming of their children joining the premier institutes as the first step towards building a great career, many times such unrealistic expectations give way to severe anxiety. At iCall, counselling is available for not just students but for people belonging to all age groups. Now in its fourth year, iCall has received 30,000-35,000 calls and 3,000-4,000 emails till now.

The service is run by professionally trained counsellors, from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 10pm. At present, iCall maintains directories of professionals providing mental health services, hospitals, de-addiction services, police, NGOs working for women, lawyers and other services, so that credible referral services are available for callers.

Paras Sharma, program coordinator for iCall, said, "iCall provides counselling for all age groups. At present, 80% of the calls are coming from the state board students. Nearly 10-15% calls are by CBSE students while the rest are by ICSE students. Those whose results are yet to be declared are calling to know the date of their results. Many call after being disappointed over scoring less marks in subjects such as Physics."
