Three workers suffocate to death while cleaning nullah in Dombivli

The deceased were identified as Hanif Shaikh, Mohammed Hussain and SK Ajagul. The trio entered into the nullah of Palava city in Dombivli near Katai-Badlapur pipeline.

Three workers died due to suffocation while cleaning a nullah at one of the huge housing complex in Dombivli on Thursday. The workers were not given adequate protection gear for cleaning the nullah. The Manpada police have registered a case against the concerned persons for causing death due to negligence.

The deceased were identified as Hanif Shaikh, Mohammed Hussain and SK Ajagul. The trio entered into the nullah of Palava city in Dombivli near Katai-Badlapur pipeline. The housing complex consists of over 70 buildings and the workers entered the drainage without wearing any masks and gloves which led to suffocation.

"When two of the workers found the third one to be missing, they tried to locate him, but when they failed, they entered deep into the nullah and eventually all three suffocated to death," said a police officer.

"We rushed to the spot and with the help of other workers, we pulled out their bodies. The trio were declared dead on admission at Shastri Nagar hospital," said the officer.

"We have registered the case of negligence against the concerned persons and are investigating further," the officer added.
