Maharashtra: Three-storey building collapses in Thane; 11 dead, several feared trapped

At least eleven people have been killed after a three-storey residential building at Thane's B Cabin area in Naupada collapsed on Tuesday.

The building 'Krishna Niwas' crashed at about 2.30 am. Several people are feared trapped under the rubble.

Subras Pandurang Bhatt (56), Mira Ramchandra Bhatt (58), Rashmi Ramchandra Bhatt (25), Arun Dattatray Sawant (62), Priya Amrut Patel (11), Bhakti Sawant (30), Ku. Khot (7), Ramchandra Pandurang Bhat (62), Manda Arvind Nene (17), Rachita Bhat (25), Amit Sawant are among the dead. Search is still on for two more bodies.

While, Arvind Nene, Amrutlal Laxmichand  Patel, Rameshchandra Galaji Mina, Mohan Devaji Mina, Shankar Khenaji Mina are injured.

Injured persons have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are engaged in the rescue operation.

Guardian Minister Eknath Shind, Collector Ashwini Joshi, Municipal Commissioner are also monitoring the rescue operation.

Thane Municipal Corporation had issued notices to residents of the building as it was in a dilapidated condition, the officials said.

While some families had evacuated the building a few others continued to stay there, they added. 

Last week, at least nine people were killed in a building collapse at Thakurli in Thane district.
