Three rickshaw drivers assault, rob man of Rs25,000 gold chain, held

A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten and robbed of his gold chain by rickshaw drivers in Chembur on Tuesday. The victim was riding his motorcycle along with his fiancé when the incident took place.

A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten and robbed of his gold chain by rickshaw drivers in Chembur on Tuesday. The victim was riding his motorcycle along with his fiancé when the incident took place.

According to the Tilak Nagar police, the victim, Vishwajeet Pawar was traveling with his fiancé, Sangeeta Karande to drop her home. While riding on the Santa Cruz-Chembur link road, Pawar had a small altercation with a rickshaw driver over a petty issue

Bhagwat Sonawane, senior PI, Tilak Nagar police station informed: "Pawar and one of the accused had a small argument on overtaking, and in no time, the rickshaw driver started assaulting him."

Sonawane added: "The other two accused, who were inside the rickshaw, accosted the couple near a signal and Pawar's gold chain weighing 15 grams and valued at Rs25,000 was snatched."

The couple immediately shouted for help, after which some passersby came to help them. One of the accused was nabbed by the crowd and taken to the police station.

Later, the police arrested the other two. The accused were later identified as Imran Sajjad, 21, who was driving the rickshaw, and his friends Mohamed Khan, 22, and Rajkumar Jaiswal, 22.

"We have arrested the three accused. Searches were conducted at their residences, but the gold chain was not found. We are investigating further," said another police officer.

After being arrested, the trio was sent for a medical examination. The police have also seized the rickshaw used in the crime and are investigating about the antecedents of the three.
