Byculla police, in a joint operation with Agripada Police, JJ Marg Police, Railway Protection Force and Railway Police, has arrested three Nigerian nationals, allegedly involved in a rioting case earlier this month. The police alleged that the foreigners were involved in drug trafficking and had created a menace in the locality over past few months.

Those arrested were Innocense Eze, 28, Stanley alias Obiena Obi, 27, and Ugwu Ifechiy, 27. According to Senior Police Inspector Avinash Shingte of Byculla Police Station, locals in the area had complained to the police that some Nigerians were selling drugs near the tracks between Sandhurst Road and Byculla stations. When residents tried to resist, the Nigerians had allegedly pelted stones on them and had fled from the spot on the night of May 31.

The locals had registered a case of rioting against them. “With the help of locals, nearby police stations and railway security agencies, we conducted a massive operation on Tuesday night, near the railway premises. We spotted around 20 Nigerians, suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. They tried to flee from the spot,” said Avinash Shingte, Senior Police Inspector of Byculla Police Station.
