On Thursday night, three hawkers were mowed to death by the Surat-Bandra Inter City Express at Palghar at around 6.40 am on Thursday. The hawkers were waiting at a crossing to board general coach of Saurashtra Janta Express to sell their eatables. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case of accidental death in this regard.

According to GRP, Rajesh Gupta, 30 and Arbaz Pathan, 19 along with another hawker were waiting near where the Saurashtra Jamnagar Express was to be put on a siding platform number 3. "The control room changed the track and gave a green signal, the trio were caught unawares and were mowed down. The station master informed us about the incident and we took the bodies to the hospital for post-mortem," said a Palghar GRP officer.

Pramod Babar, Police Inspector, Palghar GRP, said, "Often, the hawkers enter into the train while a train is pulling in, which is very risky. We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard and are yet to establish the identity of the third victim."
