Aarey Colony police have arrested three persons, including a shooter who fired at Shiv Sena Chitrapat Shakha general secretary Shrikant alias Raju Shinde. With these fresh arrests, the number of persons arrested in the case have risen to six.

Those arrested have been identified as Sandeep Kharinar (31), Satish More (22) and Jeetu Dhivar (32).

According to additional commissioner of police, north region, Fateh Singh Patil, Shinde is a resident of Aarey Colony in Goregaon (E) and has a cable business in Aadarsh Nagar area.

On May 22, around 2 pm, when Shinde was near Kalia Maidan at Aarey Colony, two unknown people on a motorcycle pumped three bullets in him.

The assailants fled after abandoning the two-wheeler some distance away. Shinde was rushed to Nanavati Hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

On May 24, the police arrested Yogesh Krishna Kokane, Sumit Atmaram Talekar and Jugal Dodia, while Khairnar, Rakesh Kamble and Suresh Gaikwad were wanted.

An officer said: "Investigation revealed that the motorcycle used to commit the crime belonged to Talekar, who was then taken in custody for interrogation. His questioning led to arrests of Kokane and Dodia." A month ago, Kokane, Kamble, Khairnar and Gaikwad had visited Film City to meet Shinde.

According to another officer, the four had requested Shinde to get them some work involving supply of equipment related to film shooting. "This led to an argument between the accused, and Shinde reportedly assaulted them. To teach Shinde a lesson, they conspired to eliminate him," the officer said.

"Khairnar and Gaikwad were the ones who fired upon Shinde. On receipt of specific information, a trap was laid and they were arrested," the officer informed.

The police have seized a country-made pistol, two magazines and five live rounds from Khairnar. The trio were procured before court and have been remanded to police custody till June 8.
