The Air Intelligence Unit(AIU) of Mumbai customs has arrested three Korean Nationals for allegedly smuggling 5 kilograms of gold worth Rs 1.40 crore. The accused have been identified as Yoon Yoonsung, Kim Chong Ho and Lee Chang Hwa, all holding Korean Passports.

According to the AIU officials, Yoon had arrived at the CSI airport in Mumbai from Hongkong when the officials apprehended him based on profiling and intelligence. The officials said, during the personal search, Yoon was found in possession of five gold bars, each weighing one kilogram that was concealed in the specially made zipper pouches stitched to a black coloured belt and black colour underwear. "We immediately arrested him and on questioning, he confessed that his two accomplices have smuggled the gold in similar modus operandi and they would be leaving the country. We then laid a trap for Yoon's accomplices and apprehended them at the departure hall on Wednesday night while they were leaving for abroad. We immediately arrested them and booked them under relevant sections of customs act," said an AIU official.

"All the three have smuggled the gold and now we are interrogating the accused to bust the entire chain of gold smuggling. The arrested accused are just carriers and the real receiver and senders are in abroad," he claimed.
