Three persons have been arrested by the Aarey Colony police in connection with the firing on Shiv Sena Chitrapat Sena general secretary Shrikant alias Raju Shinde, last week. The police are on the lookout for three more persons allegedly involved in the case.

Those arrested have been identified as Yogesh Krishna Kokane, Sumit Atmaram Talekar and Jugal Dodia. Those wanted have been identified as Sandeep Khairnar, Rakesh Kamble and Suresh Gaikwad.

According to additional commissioner of police, North region, Fatehsingh Patil, Shinde is a resident of Aarey Colony in Goregaon (E) and has a cable business in Aadarsh Nagar area. On May 22, around 2pm, when Shinde was near Kalia Maidan in Film City area in Aarey Colony, two unknown persons came on a motorcycle and pumped three bullets in him from a revolver.

After the firing, the assailants had fled after abandoning their motorcycle some distance away from the spot, after they were chased by a security guard. Shinde was rushed to Nanavati Hospital where he is still receiving treatment, said deputy commissioner of police M Ramkumar.

"Investigation revealed that the motorcycle used to commit the crime belonged to Talekar. Talekar was then taken in custody for questioning. His questioning led to arrests of Kokane and Dodia," said a police officer.

The police investigation revealed that, a month ago, Kokane, Kamble, Khairnar and Gaikwad had visited Film City to meet Shinde. "The four had requested Shinde to get them some work related to supply of equipment related to film shooting. This led to an argument between the accused persons and Shinde reportedly also assaulted them. In order to teach Shinde a lesson, the accused persons conspired to eliminate him," said a police officer.

"The accused persons procured a weapon to bump off Shinde. Khairnar and Gaikwad were the ones who fired upon Shinde. The arrested persons would be produced before the court on Tuesday," the officer said.
