After an executive of the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) department of the Mumbai airport was assaulted along with a security guard on Sunday night, the Vile Parle police have arrested three people in the case and is questioning some more people in the matter. The executive identified as Akshat Mahilwal (30) was thrashed by the local goons and after the incident all those present on the spot, fled away and later the by a series of interrogation, the cops nabbed the trio.

According to the police, the New Airport Colony where the incident was reported shares it boundaries with Bamanwada slums and the residents of the slums frequently cross the line and come in a group to spend some time. When they approached the men to stop drinking and leave the colony premises, the group indulged into a verbal spat followed by a heated argument and then a scuffle. The situation became intense after a while and the group began thrashing Mahilwal and the guard." said a police officer of Vile Parle police station.

"When other residents of the colony reached the spot and alerted the police, the group left from there to escape arrest. The duo were later taken to Nanavati hospital where they sustained hairline fractures and minor injuries. During the probe, some leads were obtained in the case which further led to the arrests made. A case has been registered under section 323 of the Indian Penal Code and further probe in the case is underway." the officer added.

"Police has assured better security and patrolling at New Airport Colony residence due to presence of anti social elements being rampant in the area around," said a Mumbai Air Traffic Control official.
