Mumbai crime branch on Saturday arrested three people in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man whose body was recovered on Thursday near Chedda Nagar junction. The body of the youth, who had wounds on his head, was dumped under a flyover.

Who is the youth?
According to the crime branch, the body was identified after deputy commissioner of police (detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni shared a photo of it with a few journalists. Kulkarni later received information that the deceased is a freelance photographer Prasad Prakash Mandavkar and a resident of Jariwala chawl in Mumbai Central. The crime branch also came to know that Mandavkar has been missing since January 7 and a missing complaint was lodged at Tardeo police station.

Who are the accused?
The arrested three accused have been identified as Sameer Rohikar, 33, Rohit Bangera, 19, George Fernandes, 25.

How did the cops zero in on them?
"After establishing the identity, we started our investigation in the case. We came to know through our informer that Mandavkar was last seen with three people," said Kulkarni. "We picked up the three accused from near Breach Candy hospital. They later confessed to the crime."

What's the motive, according to police?
Rohikar was allegedly in an illicit relationship with a woman for the last few years. The deceased Mandavkar, however, became close to her over the last few months. "Rohikar became jealous of Mandavkar and decided to kill him," said a crime branch officer.
"The day Mandavkar went missing, the accused met him and offered him juice, which they had spiked, and later assaulted him with a chopper. They dumped his body near Chedda Nagar and fled with his wallet, mobile phone and ID cards so that the body could not be identified."
