Three held for attacking police in Wadala

The Wadala TT police arrested three persons for allegedly attacking three policemen on duty on Monday. The trio identified as Faiyaz Shaikh, 19, Sadiq Shaikh, 21, and Sadiq's mother Sabunisa, 50 had allegedly attacked and assaulted sub-inspector Sandeep Mane and two constables with iron rods and a sword. on Sunday.

According to Mane, at around 3:15 am on Sunday, he was on patrolling duty with two other constables at Sangam Nagar area of Antop Hill, when they came across a commotion and rushed to intervene. However, four persons involved in the commotion went on to assault the police with iron rods and a sword.

"The accused were carrying iron rods and sword and were fighting. The policemen tried to stop them and asked them to come to the police station. The accused, however, refused to accompany the police and Faiyaz attacked Mane with a sword in his hand. Sadiq also hit Mane on the head, for which Mane had to get four stitches," said Senior Police Inspector Sushil Kamble of Wadala TT Police Station.

Mane and the constables were taken to the Sion Hospital and were discharged after the treatment.

While three accused have been arrested, a fourth accused identified as Faizal Shaikh is still missing. Those arrested have been booked on charges of attempt to commit murder.
