The Byculla police have arrested three persons for allegedly assaulting relatives of an international cricketer over a trivial issue at a Mazgaon housing society. The arrested trio has been identified as Mohammed Umar Haji Khalil Shaikh, 40, Danish Abdul Rashid Shaikh, 18, and Mohammed Mohsin Qureshi, 18.

According to the police, between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Saturday, a water tap was open on the fifth floor of Rahat building at Hirabai Compound in Mazgaon and this was turned off by the sixth floor residents. Due to this, water supply to the fifth floor residents stopped. When the victim went to the sixth floor to inquire why the tap was turned off, an argument ensued between him and Umar, who resides on the sixth floor.

"After some time, four persons, including Umar, came to the victim's residence and started creating a ruckus. They then assaulted the victim, who is a relative of an international cricketer. When two of the victim's relatives from the first floor intervened, Umar attacked one of them with a sword. Umar also threatened his other relatives," said an officer from Byculla police station.

The police were then informed. A police team rushed to the spot and arrested three persons. The fourth accomplice managed to escape.
