A man who was picked up by the ATS on charges of calling a Punjab's IPS officer and threatening to blow up Vikhroli station has come up with a spectacular explanation. According to Harish Arya, the call was made by another person in his name. He said the caller wanted to get back at him for a cross-connection call that had accidentally connected Arya to the caller's wife.

While the ATS is investigating this bizarre story, it has ruled out a terror angle to the case.

Arya, a resident of Gamdevi Housing Society in Jogeshwari, was picked up after Punjab's inspector general of police SS Chauhan gave his name to the Mumbai police. On Tuesday, Chauhan had received a phone call from someone claiming to be Arya, who said, "Main Indian Mujahideen se baat kar raha hoon. Main kal 11 baje Vikhroli station uda doonga."

"He told us that he had had an argument with someone in Punjab over a cross-connection call. Arya had wanted to call someone else, but the call was instead made to the man's wife. The man wanted to teach Arya a lesson. Arya is claiming that since he knew his name, the man called up the Punjab DG and made the threat," said an ATS officer.

The police have not yet registered an offence, but have handed over Arya to the Oshiwara police for interrogation.

In another case, the Santacruz police have caught a man who had allegedly made a call at the police control room on Wednesday threatening to blow up Milan Subway. The control room had received the call at around 4.45 pm. The caller, who was spoke in Hindi, said he would blow up the subway at 8 pm.

Alerts were sent to all units concerned, including bomb detection and disposal squads, but nothing was found from the spot. Based on the number from which the call was made, the police apprehended Rajesh Babu Kavadia, who claims he made the call when he was drunk.
