Central Railway trains were affected on the Harbour line on Monday, due to technical failure between Wadala and Sewri railway stations. There was another issue at Thane as trains were halting 90 metre ahead than usual. Both these issues resulted in problems for lakhs of daily commuters.

To begin with, the trains on Panvel-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Harbour line were affected in the morning hours due to technical failure. At around 7.15am, the overhead cables - that supplies 25000 volt to trains - snapped between Wadala and Sewri station.

This disrupted train services leading to delays of over 30 minutes and few cancellations as well. As it was a public holiday, there was less crowd on platforms and stations and the trains were running on normal timetable. Sources said that there were problems with the insulator that led to this problem which disrupted services.

"By 7.45am the issue was resolved after taking a minor block. The trains were running with delays of 30-40 minutes," said a Central Railway official.

On the night of September 1-2, there was a night block on both Up and Down directions between Wadala and Mankhurd stations from 1.30 am to 6.30 am. This was carried out for repair works and infrastructure development.

Meanwhile commuters using the Main line on Central Railway too felt trouble as local trains at Thane station are halting 90 meters ahead. This has started from September 2, only on platform 6 of this station where trains to CSMT arrive.

"With a view to provide passenger convenience while disbursing from platform, the halt of CSMT bound fast trains has been shifted by 90 meters from the existing location in Thane," said a CR official. This however came as a surprise as people were forced to run and catch the local train; despite announcements being made at the station.
