Thieves rob a jewellery shop in Thane, destroy CCTV footage

In a recent incident, thieves tried to outsmart cops by destroying CCTV footage after committing a robbery. The incident took place at Ramchandra Nagar, near Wagle Estate area on November 4. The thieves broke into Bhawani Jewellers after the midnight and robbed 5kgs of silver and 40gms of gold. After the robbery, they immediately destroyed the camera that recorded their activity and washed away the tape in a wash-basin before leaving the shop.

Next morning, Chunilal Choudhary, owner of the shop was shocked to see his gold and silver items missing. He immediately filed a complaint and on arrival the of police, all the nearby jewellery shops were closed due to safety concerns.

However, the police have retrieved images of four men breaking into the shop and have sent the footage to a special department for cleansing. A case under section 457 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (theft in dwelling house, etc) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.

AD Kshirsagar, senior police inspector from Wagle Estate police station said, "The images are a bit unclear and we have sent it for cleaning. Once the clear footage arrives, we will be able to nab the culprits. We have registered the case on four unknown accused as the faces haven't been detected." Total loss from the theft is estimated to be around Rs 2 lakh.
