Making it clear that his government would not take any action with political vendetta, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that those who were involved in scams and corruption would not be spared.

Making an intervention in the state Assembly proceedings when the entire Opposition staged a walk out to protest against the arrest of former deputy chief minister Chagan Bhujbal, Fadnavis clarified the government's stand on the issue. He also made it clear that the ED is an autonomous body and it arrested Bhujbal and earlier his nephew Samir only after it conducted an inquiry into the money-laundering case in the last few months.

Arguing that when an investigating agency has evidence against someone and if it arrests the person, Fadnavis said: "Is it fair on our part as legislators to put pressure on the agency by using the Assembly platform?"

"When money laundering has happened, is it expected of the government to be a lame duck," he asked and made it clear in no uncertain term that his government would not help suppress scams and would take necessary legal action against people involved in them.

Fadnavis expressed his unhappiness stating that it was an unfortunate day in the Assembly because when state is facing serious drought problem, the Opposition is busy in stalling the House over the action taken by an investigating agency. He added that even if his government is accused of political vendetta by the Opposition, he believed in people of the state who understand what is political and what is not.

The chief minister went on to say that if the state legislature is used to pressurise the investigating agency, it would have an impact on the law and order situation.
