The Maharashtra Navanirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) has written to the school education department, seeking action against Indian Education Society's kindergarten, Dadar, for demanding parents to disclose income and PAN details at the time of admission.

"The school has made it compulsory for the parents to disclose how much they earn. This is a clear way to filter the students. This is unfair and hence we have demanded action against the school. Why would the school need the parents' PAN number? Therefore, we have demanded that the education department inquire into the matter," said Chetan Pednekar, vice president, MNVS.

The group has alleged that the school could have manipulated the admissions done in February.

However, the school maintains that the details are optional. "The details do not affect the admission process. Part A of the form which requires the parents to give details about the child, proof of age and residence is marked with an asterisk which means it is mandatory. However, there is no other asterisk on the Part B of the form which requires details about parents' income," said Satish Nayak, trustee of the school.
