When dna set off on an ambitious project to filter 30 names of exceptional talent across various domains, we were not ready for the sheer variety and diversity that we were about to discover. Initially, we had as many as 80 categories with strong contenders in each. But with stringent clauses on Mumbai-connection and the age factor, we pruned this list down to eight, with about 80-odd names, on the cards, with great difficulty. Many sub-categories were created under the umbrella themes.
The idea was to tap the very essence of enterprise in a city like Mumbai, where an average person takes a lifetime to make his dream a reality. We had the parameters in place: it was a hunt for geniuses who are aged 30 and below, who have not only been game-changers in their respective fields but have also given a face to a unique idea. While some names cropped up time and again during the discussions, it was a conscious decision to avoid those who have seized media attention at any given time of their career. We were looking out for youngsters with an edge.
The methodology we adopted was simple; we started off with a series of team discussions based on research and a study of the press coverage for each industry. Post this, we enquired from experts, within varied industries, about young game-changers who have shown potential and have occupied a primary, stable space for themselves in their field.
A jury of eminent judges was called on to help us seal the decision, comprising names like fashion designer Nachiket Barve, social worker and lawyer Susieben Shah, TV actress Sakshi Tanwar, filmmaker Hansal Mehta and India’s first professional snooker player Yasin Merchant.
Through confidential scoring, every nomination was analysed and judged based on three categories: Impact, Innovation and Overall. There were differences of opinions as expected, but a clear majority was soon apparent. After much deliberating and some nail-biting suspense, we have arrived at a conclusive list of finalists!
