Thanekars now can easily get weather updates on their mobile phones through the weatherlink 2.0 app which was launched by the TMC on June 5 on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched six weather stations in the city this week in order to capture and predict the distinct climate conditions of Thane. The weather stations will give real time weather updates to the citizens through a mobile application.
Thanekars now can easily get weather updates on their mobile phones through the weatherlink 2.0 app which was launched by the TMC on June 5 on the occasion of the World Environment Day. "This app offers inquisitive residents complete information about their climate condition in real time," said Sandip Malvi, public relations officer, TMC.
The app offers information about temperature, humidity, rainfall, etc from the six weather monitoring stations. These stations are located at the TMC headquarters at Pachpakhadi, Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium, Rayladevi ward office, Vitawa school no. 73, Mumbra and Diva ward office.
"Since Thane has different topography, the weather condition differs accordingly. And, hence these stations have been set up accordingly," he said.
These stations will also be linked to the TMC disaster management cell so that it can be prepared to deal with emergencies like heavy rainfall, deluge like situation, etc.
"With Skymet's prediction of heavy rainfall from June 9 to June 11, the weather report from our stations will also help us respond immediately at local level," he says.
The updates from the weather station will also be available on TMC website as well as its app DigiThane.
On June 5, the TMC also announced introducing a fleet of 100 electric buses in the TMT (Thane municipal transport). These buses ply on electricity at run up to 220 km when fully charged. They are smoke and noise free and come with wi-fi, air conditioner, LED tv, etc. They will start running on Thane roads after the necessary formalities are over.
