On the eve of World Environment Day, Thane citizens gathered to form a human chain near Talav Pali on Sunday, with an aim to spread awareness about the decreasing green cover.

Thanekar Foundation, an organisation along with Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) organised the event.

According to the organisation over 2,000 citizens came together to form a human chain. Speaking about the initiative, Pratik Kate, founder of Thane Foundation said, "We can see the green cover reducing every year. It is an alarming situation. We reached out to citizens with the help of social media and pamphlets so that citizens could join us in large numbers."

The group also promoted waste management through this initiative.

"TMC has been creating awareness about waste management in different societies. If the societies require, the volunteers will visit and explain about waste management at the society level," said Kate.

The human chain was divided into four zones to highlight four different kinds of environment issues.
