To make Thanekars more aware about the importance of environment-friendly measures and what's been done so far to that end, a Green Idea exhibition will be held in Gaodevi this week. Here, residents will get to see a solar car, movies and participate in workshops.

The three-day exhibition has been organised on the occasion of World Environment Day by NGO Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth. It will start on June 3 and go on till June 5.

"It is a common belief that an environment-friendly lifestyle is quite expensive. Though people want to adopt green measures, they do not know where they can buy items that are economical and eco-friendly," said Bhatu Sawant from the NGO. "Hence, to give them information about such items as well as various other measures, we are holding this exhibition."

In this exhibition, a solar car built by Veermata Jijabai Technical Institute students that won a national award will be showcased. There are many green buckets/bins available that compost natural waste to fertilizer but take a year at least. "There is a machine which makes natural fertilizer in 24 hours and it will be exhibited here," Sawant said.

Those who want to know about harnessing wind energy, solar energy, solid waste management, rain harvesting and ways to adopt these in their societies can also get information on the same at the exhibition.

Over 80 stalls will share details on reusing and recycling waste, generating power from waste, daily waste management at home, efficient use of energy at home, green building, and making things from clay among other things.

There will also be an exhibition on biodiversity of India and a short film festival on the subject.
