The Thane police have arrested a watchman of a school on charges of sodomising a five-year-old boy. Accused Masal Sonawane was working at the school, located in the Rabodi area, for the past 20 years.
The incident took place on December 13 morning when the boy had gone to the toilet.
According the Rabodi police, Sonawane followed the child and closed the door. He then sexually assaulted the boy.
The police said the boy complained of severe back pain after reaching home. When his mother asked him if anything had happened to him in the school, he narrated the incident to her.
The parents were shocked by the five-year-old’s narration.
The boy’s family lodged a police complaint in the evening. Sonawane, a resident of the same locality, was arrested on Monday.
“Initially, the accused denied abusing the child, but later admitted to the crime,” said an officer from Rabodi police station.
The police have booked Sonawane under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the IPC and Child Protection Act 2012. He will be produced in a court on Tuesday.
