To deal with continuous traffic issues across the city, and especially at Pokharan Road, residents of around 10 to 12 housing societies have started a WhatsApp forum to discuss about the problems and their solutions.
Kasber Augistine of NGO Go Green Maharashtra conceptualised the idea and he was joined by residents and secretaries from different housing societies of the adjoining areas. The group members include residents from Dosti Vihar, Laxminarayan Residency, Kores Tower, Vedant Complex to name a few.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officials, traffic and police department are also a part of the group and the problems have been open for discussions for one and all.
One of the group members said the residents are facing serious traffic problems, especially at Pokharan Road 1 and 2 and till now, there has been no breakthrough. The residents claimed that there have been several rounds of discussion and meetings, but the problem has not been solved yet.
Many people together are putting up different ideas which could be implemented to solve the traffic woes. Residents discuss problems of illegal encroachment, parking problems hawkers menace among many.
Ajit Singh, an active resident from Dosti Vihar, said, “This is a platform to share issues, concerns and find effective solutions. The group enables us to validates the issues and concerns with other members. The discussion then helps us understand many perspectives of the issue raised. The diversity of thoughts and views are sincerely appreciated by the members. It gives voice to the issue here actions are decided and support solicited and it helps to reach out to authorities and stakeholders and also, promote social harmony.”
