Thane police official shoots self from rifle, critical in state

The Thane police department suspects that the rifle was misfired by the constable posted at the headquarters

In a shocking incident, a Thane police department official Sagar Malunjkar allegedly tried to end his life by pulling the trigger of his Self Loading Riffle late night on Thursday. The official suffered injuries on the left side of his chest and is undergoing treatment at Platinum hospital.

Malunjkar is from the 2014 batch and is posted as a guard at the Thane police headquarters. He is still unconscious as the police department is yet to take the statement to verify the incident.

"We heard the loud thud of the gun being fired as we rushed out to find him lying in the pool of blood and so rushed him to the hospital", said another guard posted at the headquarter.

"We are yet to verify if he tried to end his life or if the rifle was misfired as he is yet to gain consciousness", said Sukhada Narkar, PRO, Thane police department.

"We will take the statement of the official as to ascertain if he was under stress and was trying to end his life so we rushed him to a private hospital for adequate treatment and would be kept under observation", Narkar added.
