Thane police nab 9 involved in stealing 105 cars

The cops have arrested nine people, and seized 80 of the 105 stolen cars worth Rs 3.40 crores from them.

The Thane police have busted an inter-state gang involved in stealing cars from Maharashtra, changed their documents in Nagaland and sold them in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The cops have arrested nine people, and seized 80 of the 105 stolen cars worth Rs 3.40 crores from them.

On October 10, 2018 a Mahindra Bolero pickup car of a Thane resident was stolen from Vrindavan society in Rabodi. Through CCTV footage and technical analysis Thane cops traced the car in Pune and nabbed an accused Sandip Lagu from Mumbai in December. "During the investigation Lagu confessed his involvement with inter-state gang that stole cars from Mumbai, Thane, rural Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Gujarat, Ahmednagar," says senior police inspector Ramrao Somvanshi from Rabodi police station. "They would bring these cars to a godown in Pune where they changed their engine and chasis number," he added. The cops have arrested nine people from the gang, namely, Sandip Murlidhar Lagu from Mumbai, Sadiq Mehboob Khan Mullah from Karnataka, Altaf Abdullagani Gokak from Karnataka, Vinit Ratan Madhiwal from Mumbai, Mangilal Shubhnaram Jakhad from Rajasthan, Javed alias Bablu Mukhtar Khan from Uttar Pradesh.

The accused confessed to have stolen 170 vehicles of which cops have access to information about 105 vehicles.
