Thane Municipal Corporation has proposed various measures like massive tree plantation drive, green hanging walls, memory garden and so on in order to further increase the city's green cover.

In past three years, TMC planted 10 lakh trees in the city. "We had a target of 5 lakh trees but we planted double with a survival rate of 80% to 82%," says Sanjeev Jaiswal, TMC commissioner. This has increased the urban jungle at Kavesar, Bramhand and Waghbill and added to the green lungs of the city.

Encouraged by this initiative, the civic body will now plant one lakh trees and one lakh fragrant plants this year and a budget of Rs 5 crores have been allotted for the same. This has encouraged the TMC to undertake more tree plantation and add to the overall greenery of the city. "Starting with Majiwada flyover, each pillar of the flyovers in the city will have a hanging green wall," he says.
