Thane Municipal Corporation holds awareness drives for public to cast their ballot

Even as several communities in Thane district are planning to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the TMC is making efforts to increase voter percentage. It has undertaken activities like rallies, signature campaigns, chunav pathshalas among other things to make the voters aware of their rights and cast their ballot.

With the announcement of the LS poll dates, all the machineries in Thane have upped their game to increase voter percentage. For instance, from April 2, they have started Chunav pathshala (election school) where their officials visit various schools and colleges. "We tell students that voting is a duty and to educate their parents, relatives and neighbours," said Sandip Malvi, public relations officer and deputy municipal commissioner, TMC. They also show voters how to use VVPAT machine.

They held a student rally accompanied by dhol-tasha pathak (band) on Friday at Lokmanyanagar in Thane. The students appealed people to exercise their right in the LS election of April 29.

The civic body also organised a signature campaign urging the youth to vote. Apart from this the civic body have also asked its ghanta gadi (garbage collecting vehicles) to educate the residents of the areas they visit to collect garbage every day. "Along with collecting waste, the workers will urge the residents of these societies and slums to vote on April 29," he added.
